A lead paint respirator is an essential safety item when heat gunning or sanding lead based paint. If you are unsure if your paint contains lead, then assume it has lead unless it has been properly tested to prove there is no lead present. If your project was painted prior to 1970 then there is a real possibility lead may be present.
This lead paint respirator has extra fine filtration necessary to remove the very fine lead particles in the air while you are heat gunning or sanding lead based paint. Ordinary dust masks are ineffective as the microscopic lead particles pass straight through.
This lead paint respirator is disposable and is more suited to smaller projects where you may be working for 1 to 2 hours at a time. For bigger projects you may gain greater comfort and economy from the 3M respirator equipped with the lead particulate filters, see below.
This lead paint respirator includes an exit port to ease breathing and moisture build up. It also includes an aluminium nose strip to help seal around your nose.
Disposable lead paint respirators have limited life. If it loses its original shape, replace it immediately. We recommend that you work with a pair and swap between them each hour. Place the mask you’ve just used out in the fresh air to breathe and dry out while you use the other. This will improve your comfort and extend the mask life a little.
Usage:
As a loose rule of thumb, allow 1-2 disposable lead paint respirators for every 8 hours of use.
Caution:
These disposable lead paint respirators are unsuitable for solvent vapour protection when using paint stripping chemicals. Use the disposable solvent respirator when you start using the chemicals (see below).
When removing lead based paint using the Coopers Restoration System by itself without any heat gunning and without any sanding there is negligible lead dust risk so wear the solvent respirator instead.
