Cooper’s Strip-it is one of the items in the Coopers Stripping System. It is used in the “red” Stripping phase when following the Coopers Restoration System to soften the old finish. It’s effectiveness in stripping the woodwork without all the hard work of sanding and scraping does depend upon being used with the other key items in the .
Strip-it is offered here as a top-up item for your Coopers Stripping System and if used by itself without the other pack components will likely lead to disappointing results. If you are a first time user of Cooper’s or new to stripping paint or varnish, then start with the which already has this item.
Coatings that can be stripped
Strip-it has very broad range capabilities. It will soften:
- Most paints such as acrylic, oil and lead based, but not all two part types (but these are most uncommon in private residences).
- Polyurethane
- Lacquer
- Shellac
- Waxes
- Oil finishes
- Flooring glue
- Many flooring varnishes – but not all. Tests may be required.
- Oil and water based stains, but limited effectiveness on spirit stains.
- Boat anti-foul
Usage
Strip-it is normally sprayed on using a Strip-it applicator bottle and a trigger head (see below).
One litre will normally do 4 square metres. Thick coatings may need double.
If you are heat gunning your old paint first, then you probably won’t need additional Strip-it.
Value
You may notice that the cost per litre is higher than ordinary retail paint stripper. But don’t be deceived, it’s not the cost per litre that matters, it’s your cost per effective square metre that you’re interested in. Cooper’s Strip-it usually goes 10 times further per litre than a typical ordinary gel stripper. See .
